German Powerhouse Vorwerk Continues to Grow and Invest

Vorwerk Managing Partners Walter Muyres and Reiner Strecker reported a successful 2011 for the Germany-based direct selling company, which closed the financial year 2011 with a 4.2 percent increase in sales and succeeded in boosting its pre-tax profits.

At a financial press conference held in Wuppertal, the partners reported that Vorwerk generated sales totaling 2.367 billion euros in 2011. Consolidated business volume, including new business in financial services, was up from 2.4 to 2.7 billion euros.

European Court of Justice (ECJ) judgement on Distance Selling Directive

On the 5 July 2012, in case of Content Services Ltd vs. Bundesarbeitskammer (Case C-49/11), the ECJ ruled that information given to a consumer on the website or via hyperlink after an online transaction is not a suitable way to inform consumers. According to Article 5 (1) of Directive 97/7/EC on the protection of consumers in respect of distance selling contract, the consumer must receive all necessary information prior to and/or at the time of transaction and this information should be communicated in a “durable medium”.
